About Steuerboard

Tax advisors and accounting firms often operate in a daily paradox: they are high-value professionals, yet they spend a significant portion of their time on routine activities โ€” managing documents, communicating with clients by mail, chasing deadlines, coordinating repetitive workflows. Steuerboard was built to resolve this paradox, offering a software platform that automates routine processes and structures client collaboration, freeing up valuable time for actual advisory work. The product starts from a concrete observation: traditional postal communication โ€” still widely used in the German accounting sector โ€” is not only time-consuming but generates growing logistical problems. Steuerboard digitalizes and automates this flow, creating a structured interaction channel between the firm and its clients that reduces response times, minimizes errors, and increases transparency across every active case. The business model is B2B, positioned as a professional tool for tax firms and accountants. The value proposition operates on two levels: on one side, the operational efficiency of the firm, which benefits from leaner processes and a reduced administrative burden; on the other, the quality of service perceived by the end client, who gains a more responsive and organized digital touchpoint compared to paper correspondence. The market for digitizing professional services firms in Germany and across Europe is large and still largely underpenetrated. Cultural resistance to digitization in certain professional sectors is real, but competitive and generational pressure is accelerating change. Steuerboard positions itself as an enabler of this transition โ€” a product that promises not to upend how tax professionals work, but to eliminate the most obvious and recurring inefficiencies that consume time and reduce service quality.

The Story

Steuerboard was founded in Dรผsseldorf in 2023 by Matyas Heins and Jakob Brandt, who identified a paradox well known in the German accounting sector: highly skilled tax advisory firms losing hours every day chasing emails, scattered documents, and deadlines across multiple channels. The problem wasn't expertise โ€” it was process. Traditional postal and email communication, still dominant in the industry, was generating delays, logistical errors, and a fragmented client experience. Heins and Brandt built Steuerboard as a direct response: an AI platform that automates routine workflows, centralizes client communication, and frees up advisory time for actual consulting. By June 2025, less than two years after launch, Steuerboard had already signed around 100 law and accounting firms as customers โ€” from small local offices to units with several hundred employees โ€” and raised โ‚ฌ725,000 in a pre-seed round backed by High-Tech Grรผnderfonds (HTGF) and business angel Roland Fassauer.

Strategic Insights

  • Professional services software succeeds when it eliminates time spent on low-value administrative tasks โ€” the ROI is measurable in hours per advisor per month.
  • Tax and accounting software markets are sticky: once integrated into daily workflows, switching costs are high and retention is long.
  • Targeting a specific professional vertical (tax advisors rather than generic accounting) enables deeper product-market fit and more precise go-to-market.
