Planet Smart City

Planet Smart City is a proptech startup founded in 2015 (with Italian roots, today legally headquartered in London) that designs smart, affordable housing developments, combining architecture, urban planning, and digital solutions. The company's offering integrates the design and construction of residential developments with consulting services for other developers and with proprietary digital ecosystems — mobile apps, IoT sensors, SaaS platforms — designed to make neighbourhoods more liveable, connected, and manageable even in lower-income contexts. The business model has attracted substantial institutional capital: in March 2025 Planet Smart City received a €43.73 million investment, of which €40 million came from Breevast, bringing the company's total funding raised over the years to $372 million. With a headcount of 295 employees as of February 2026, the company maintains active operations in key markets such as Brazil, Italy, and India, where its flagship Pune project generated significant sales volumes. Planet Smart City's positioning addresses a structural problem in emerging real estate markets and European urban peripheries: the shortage of affordable housing that is also equipped with modern digital infrastructure, a gap the company seeks to close by offering superior construction and technology standards at costs contained relative to traditional real estate development. The smart affordable housing market remains strategic amid ongoing global urbanisation, especially in developing countries, where demand for cheap yet technologically advanced housing continues to outpace available supply.
