About Doctolib

Booking a medical appointment in France used to mean waiting on hold, leaving voicemail messages, calling back. The process was frustrating for patients and inefficient for doctors, forced to dedicate administrative resources to appointment management rather than patient care. Doctolib took this problem and solved it systematically, becoming Europe's leading platform for online medical bookings and software for healthcare professionals. Headquartered in Paris, Doctolib built a two-sided platform: for patients, a simple interface to find available doctors โ€” general practitioners, specialists, dentists, psychologists โ€” and book appointments in a few clicks, with automatic confirmations and reminders. For healthcare professionals, practice management software covering scheduling, digital patient records, teleconsultations, and patient communication. The business model is SaaS for medical practices and clinics: monthly subscriptions for the professionals who use the platform as their core practice management system. Patients access the booking layer for free, while monetization happens on the supply side. It is one of the most proven models in healthcare tech: the party with the greatest incentive to pay for the platform is not the patient, who uses it occasionally, but the professional, who uses it every day. Doctolib has become de facto health infrastructure in France and in other European markets where it operates. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the platform played a critical role in managing nationwide vaccination bookings in France โ€” a demonstration of the scale and reliability achieved, and of the increasingly institutional role the platform has taken on within the healthcare system. Doctolib's success proves that even in highly regulated sectors historically resistant to digitalization, such as healthcare, it is possible to build scalable platforms with strong network effects: the more doctors use the platform, the more patients choose it, and vice versa.
