Quint Computing, Enginsight, Tumbleweed — €9.1M for quantum, cyber growth and €6.9M for microgravity — Daily News November 3, 2026
Listen to the episodeAbout Tumbleweed
Tumbleweed grew out of Team Tumbleweed, which had worked on Mars rovers since 2016, and became an independent company in Vienna in November 2024, founded by Julian Rothenbuchner (CEO), Leonhard Goliasch (COO) and Guillaume Brault (CTO); a second office in Delft, the Netherlands, focuses on technology development. It offers Pods, modular containers in which labs and companies integrate experiments without aerospace expertise, and Oasis, an orbital platform that hosts them in flight. Oasis Alpha launched on July 7, 2026 on SpaceX Transporter-17 with four customers, including TU Delft, ESRIC and MassBalance. Missions start at €15,000. On November 3, 2026 it announced a €6.9 million seed round led by PactVC, with Vanagon Ventures, Prototype Capital and EWOR, Austria’s largest spacetech seed round: it will fund three missions in 2027 for more than ten customers and develop Oasis Beta, which will return samples to Earth from 2028.
The Story
Grew out of Team Tumbleweed, which had worked on Mars rovers since 2016; independent company since November 2024.
How Tumbleweed works
Business Model
B2B payload and mission service combining modular hardware with end-to-end orbital access.
Revenue Model
Per-payload and per-mission pricing, starting at €15,000.

Geographic Presence
How Tumbleweed competes
Competitive Advantages
- Modular containers that simplify integration and certification
- First commercial mission completed with four customers
- Presence across Vienna and Delft
How Tumbleweed grows
Growth Strategy
Fly three missions in 2027, expand the customer base and develop Oasis Beta with sample return.
Distribution Model
Direct sales to laboratories and companies, launch-provider partnerships and shared missions.
Moat (Defensibility)
Certification know-how, payload integration, orbital hardware and mission-operating data.
Regulatory Context
Space authorisation, payload safety, export controls and launch-and-return liability.
Key Risks
- Launch and mission risk
- Return capability not yet demonstrated
- Dependence on launch providers
- Long sales cycles and space regulation
Strategic Insights
- Standardising certification may compress time and cost more than launch-price reductions alone.
- Return capability is important for pharma, materials and semiconductors but remains to be demonstrated.
