About trail

trail, whose domain is trail-ml.com and whose legal entity is trail GmbH, is a Munich company founded in 2023 by Anna Spitznagel, CEO, Nikolaus Pinger and Sven Hölzel, who met at the Technical University of Munich and CDTM. The website imprint gives Georgenstraße 38, Munich, as its address. The platform automates the governance of AI systems: agents identify the rules that apply to a system and check whether controls are followed, and a control layer can block an agent's action before it runs if it breaks a policy. It supports the EU AI Act, ISO 42001 and the NIST framework, and can rerun evaluations when the evidence changes. Originally it also offered a governance copilot with a free self-assessment tool for AI Act risk class. On 11 July 2024 it announced a €1.45 million pre-seed led by CapitalT, with NP-Hard Ventures, Mozilla Ventures, Common Magic and business angels. In October 2026 Collibra, a data and AI governance company, announced the acquisition; the price was not disclosed.
