About Plume

Identifying the right site for a solar or wind installation is one of the most complex and expensive phases of renewable energy development. The assessment requires analyzing dozens of variables: solar irradiance, wind speed, soil type, grid availability, distance from infrastructure, landscape constraints, local zoning plans, community opposition. Traditionally, this process takes months of work from teams of consultants and engineers analyzing geographic and regulatory data one layer at a time. Plume, a Franco-American startup founded in Paris, uses geospatial AI to compress this timeline. Plume's platform automatically analyzes multiple layers of geospatial data — satellite, cadastral, regulatory, meteorological — to identify optimal sites for solar and wind project development. Renewable energy developers can rapidly screen large geographic areas, compare candidate locations, and prioritize where to invest in-depth evaluation resources. What once took months becomes a matter of days. The business model is B2B directed at renewable project developers, infrastructure funds investing in the sector, and utilities seeking to expand their renewable portfolio. The value proposition is clear: reduce development costs and accelerate project time-to-market, which is one of the main bottlenecks in the energy transition. The market is expanding rapidly: Europe must install tens of gigawatts of renewables every year to meet the 2030 and 2050 climate targets, and the current pace of development is still too slow. Every tool that accelerates the site selection and development process has a direct impact on the ability to reach these objectives. Plume's Franco-American dimension is significant: operating in two markets with very different regulatory frameworks and geographic characteristics requires a robust and flexible platform, but also enables the collection of richer training data and the ability to serve international developers with projects across multiple jurisdictions.

The Story

Plume was founded in Paris in 2022 combining expertise in geospatial data science and deep renewable energy sector knowledge. The team recognized that site selection was still a bottleneck in the renewable energy deployment pipeline.
