Varjo

Varjo is a Finnish startup founded in 2016 in Helsinki by former Nokia and Microsoft engineers, with a precise objective: to build the world's highest-resolution and highest-fidelity VR and XR headsets, designed exclusively for professional and industrial use. While the consumer market pushes toward affordable, accessible headsets, Varjo chose the opposite path — products costing thousands of euros that deliver uncompromising visual quality for simulation, design, and training. Varjo's reference market is defence and military simulation: its XR-4 headsets are used by armed forces of NATO countries to train pilots, weapons system operators, and combat units in virtual environments that replicate real operational conditions with extreme fidelity. In October 2025, Varjo launched the updated XR-4 series — with redesigned headband, AI-improved passthrough, and hardware/software support guaranteed through 2030 — and announced partnerships with Rheinmetall and a €5 million strategic investment from THEON to accelerate development of next-generation military VR/XR solutions. Varjo also serves the automotive design, architecture, and advanced medical training markets — sectors where visual fidelity is critical to simulation effectiveness. The startup has raised over €150 million in funding and established itself as the global reference for high-resolution professional VR/XR.
