Tibber

Tibber is a Norwegian startup founded in 2016 in Oslo that reinvented the household electricity supply model: no markup, no profit margins on energy — Tibber sells electricity at the real-time spot market price and earns on a transparent fixed monthly fee. For customers, this means paying for electricity at actual cost, with the ability to schedule consumption during low-price hours — charging the electric car at night, running the washing machine at 3am — leveraging energy market fluctuations to their advantage. The platform is smart-home-first: an app that displays the real-time energy price, integrates with smart thermostats, heat pumps, EV wallboxes, and other IoT devices, and controls them automatically to optimise consumption and costs. Tibber has surpassed 1 million users in its operating markets — Norway, Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands — and has raised $180 million in funding. Tibber's model is aligned with the future of the energy grid: a system where demand is flexible and responds to market price signals, contributing to grid stability while lowering costs for consumers. In 2025, it launched Grid Rewards — a service that pays customers to reduce consumption at peak grid moments — moving further toward a consumer-facing Virtual Power Plant model.
