About Telura

Twenty-first century factories produce data as much as they produce parts. Every machine, every sensor, every assembly line generates a continuous stream of information about its status, performance, and wear signals. The problem is that this informational richness often stays trapped in isolated, incompatible systems โ€” or simply goes unprocessed in real time because data is sent to the cloud and returns too late to be useful. Telura, a German startup based in Munich, attacks this problem from the infrastructure side. The company has built an edge computing software platform for industrial automation that moves data processing directly to where the data is generated โ€” on production lines, in machinery, and in control systems. This approach reduces latency, cuts bandwidth costs, and enables real-time AI algorithms to run without depending on cloud connectivity. The practical applications are exactly what production managers care about most today: predictive maintenance, automated quality control, energy consumption optimization, and anomaly detection. Telura provides both the necessary hardware โ€” industrial devices and sensors โ€” and the software platform for data collection, processing, and visualization. This is paired with a SaaS subscription for ongoing access to the monitoring and analytics platform. The commercial model involves multi-year contracts with manufacturing customers, structured around a combination of hardware sales, recurring software fees, and maintenance services. Target sectors include automotive, precision engineering, logistics, and any capital-intensive industry that has already begun a digitalization journey. At a time when competitive pressures are pushing European factories to do more with less, Telura offers the concrete promise of turning already-existing data โ€” often ignored or underutilized โ€” into measurable operational advantage.

The Story

Telura was founded in Germany in the mid-2020s by Philipp Engelkamp and Andrew Welling. Engelkamp had already co-founded and scaled INERATEC in the field of e-fuels, while Welling comes from complex hardware programs like Lilium and held senior roles at Rolls-Royce. The problem they see is that deep geothermal energy promises clean and baseload power, but is hindered by the costs and limitations of traditional mechanical drilling. The insight is to use technologies like electro-impulse drilling to unlock a new economic profile for the sector. The aha moment lies in realizing that the challenge is not the lack of resources, but the way to access them. Thus, Telura starts as an industrial deep-tech company born from the intersection of energy, aerospace, and scale-up experience.

How Telura works

Business Model

Telura provides industrial infrastructure solutions and monitoring systems. The model is hardware + software B2B: it sells devices and sensors paired with a SaaS subscription for the monitoring and analysis platform. Customers pay for installation and a recurring fee for data access and predictive maintenance services. It provides multi-year contracts and custom services for specific sectors.
