About STORM Therapeutics

Cancer is a disease of genetic regulation: cells that should behave normally lose control of their growth and replication processes. Oncology research over recent decades has focused primarily on DNA and proteins as therapeutic targets. STORM Therapeutics, a Cambridge biotech, explores an intermediate level that has received far less attention: RNA modifications, the molecular mechanism that controls how DNA is read and translated into proteins. The company develops anti-cancer therapies through the modulation of RNA modifications โ€” a field known as epitranscriptomics. The proteins that add, remove, or read chemical modifications on RNA play a critical role in tumor progression across several cancer types. Inhibiting these proteins with specific drugs could block tumor growth through mechanisms different from those exploited by existing therapies, opening treatment possibilities for patients who do not respond to conventional approaches. STORM Therapeutics operates in the preclinical research and early-stage clinical development phase. Like all biotechs at this stage, it does not yet have commercial revenues: capital raised from investors is deployed to advance pharmaceutical candidates through the scientific validation phases required to access human trials. Monetization will come through partnerships with large pharmaceutical companies: upfront payments, clinical milestones, and future royalties are the standard model in the sector. Cambridge, where STORM is based, is one of the densest biotech ecosystems in the world โ€” with access to a high-caliber university talent pool, shared research infrastructure, and a community of investors specialized in life sciences. The epitranscriptomics field is still relatively young but is accumulating scientific evidence confirming its oncological relevance. STORM Therapeutics positions itself as a pioneer in this space, with the objective of translating RNA modification biology into new classes of anti-cancer drugs.

The Story

STORM Therapeutics emerged from academic research in cell biology and molecular engineering. The founding team recognized that traditional therapeutic development lacked the precision to effectively target disease at the cellular level. By translating their breakthrough research into a scalable platform, STORM is developing a new generation of targeted therapies that could transform treatment outcomes for patients with previously intractable conditions.
