The infrastructure that moves card payments around the world is old, layered, and expensive. Traditional payment processors were built on mainframe architectures from the 1970s and 1980s, with abstraction layers added over time to adapt to modern requirements โ but never redesigned from the ground up. The result is that banks and payment processors pay high operating costs, have limited visibility into transaction data, and struggle to adapt quickly to new market requirements. Silverflow was founded in Amsterdam to address this problem with a cloud-native approach: a card payment processing platform built on modern infrastructure that gives banks and processors granular transaction data, complete control over routing logic, and lower operating costs. The B2B model targets fintechs, PSPs, and banks that want to modernize their processing infrastructure without building everything from scratch. Silverflow connects directly to the main payment networks โ Visa and Mastercard โ eliminating intermediate layers that add cost and latency. A per-transaction fee plus a monthly minimum creates revenue proportional to managed volumes. The granularity of data that Silverflow returns to its clients is a key differentiator: in a market where routing decisions and cost optimization depend on the quality of transactional information, seeing every detail of every payment is a competitive advantage that legacy systems cannot offer.
The Story
Founded in Amsterdam in 2019 by Anne Willem de Vries, Paul Buying, and Robert Kraalโall veterans of payments and acquiringโSilverflow was born from a structural problem: the infrastructure processing billions of card transactions still runs on legacy, fragmented, slow-to-update technology. The insight that drove them: the entire card processing layer could be rebuilt as cloud-native with a single connection and richer data, rather than patching historic systems. Having lived within the industry's constraints firsthand, they realized what was needed wasn't incremental improvement but architectural reset. Silverflow emerged as pure infrastructural fintech, built to modernize the payments backbone.
How Silverflow works
Business Model
Silverflow provides cloud infrastructure for payment card processing. The model is B2B: fintech, PSPs, and banks pay a per-transaction fee and a minimum monthly fee for API usage. Thanks to modular technology, partners reduce operational costs and gain direct access to payment networks. Pricing varies based on transaction volume and includes reporting services and customization.
