Pennylane was founded in 2020 in Paris by Arthur Waller and Alexandre Roquoplo with a precise idea: the relationship between European SMEs and their accountants was still fundamentally based on email and Excel spreadsheets. A shared platform could transform both sides of the relationship. The startup built a collaborative workspace where SMEs and accountants work on the same financial data in real time — invoicing, cash flow, bank reconciliation, tax preparation. The model differs from QuickBooks (only for companies) or accountant tools: it's specifically designed for the bilateral relationship. In January 2026, Pennylane closed a $204M Series E ($175M equity) led by TCV and Blackstone Growth, reaching a $4.25B valuation. The company generates over $115M ARR and has reached profitability.
