Orqa, founded in 2016 in Zagreb, develops high-quality FPV (First Person View) goggles for drone flying, along with video transmission systems and complete aerial platforms. Originally rooted in the consumer/racing FPV drone segment, the company has progressively shifted its centre of gravity toward defence and security applications, a pivot reflecting the surging demand for FPV drone technology in military and reconnaissance use following the war in Ukraine. Funding has accelerated over the past two years: after a $5.8 million investment from Lightspeed Venture Partners in 2024, Orqa closed a €12.7 million Series A led by Expeditions — a fund specialising in early-stage European security investments — with participation from Croatian fund AYMO Ventures and international investors Lightspeed, Taiwania Capital, and Radius Capital. The capital allowed the company to scale production capacity to 280,000 drones a year. 2026 brought significant international expansion: Orqa signed cooperation agreements with entities in Qatar, Ukraine, the United States, and Canada, culminating on June 25, 2026 in a five-year, CAD 150 million partnership with Canadian defence firm Remote Robotic Systems to build drones, AI systems, and counter-drone technology on Canadian soil. On the product front, in June 2026 the company unveiled the MRM2-10AI, a hybrid drone capable of operating via fibre-optic cable or radio control through its proprietary IRONghost system, featuring onboard AI processing and image-based navigation that automatically switches between control modes depending on battlefield interference. Orqa is today one of Europe's leading players in the fast-growing FPV drone segment for defence and security applications, a market radically transformed by recent years' conflicts.
