About Monta
Monta is a Danish startup founded in 2020 in Copenhagen offering a software platform for managing electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Unlike operators that own and directly manage charging points, Monta provides the software layer โ management backend, billing, remote monitoring, third-party app integration โ enabling charging station owners, businesses, and municipalities to manage their network without building proprietary technology infrastructure. The โฌ80 million (~$87 million) Series B closed in January 2024, led by Energize Capital alongside GreenPoint Partners and Denmark's state export and investment fund, with participation from Headline, byFounders, AENU, Creandum, and Quantum Light, brought total capital raised over three years to โฌ130 million. These funds fuelled an aggressive international expansion in 2025-2026, entering the U.S. market โ where Monta opened a Miami headquarters led by co-founder and CEO Casper Rasmussen, hiring around 30 local employees by end-2025 โ and the Canadian market. The stated goals are ambitious: connecting 25,000 commercial charging points in the U.S. by end-2025 and reaching 1 million global charging points by 2030. Among the most notable North American partnerships is one with Sobeys, the Canadian grocery chain, which uses the Monta platform for its nationwide workplace charging programme. As of March 31, 2026, Monta's headcount stood at 378 employees. Monta represents a typical "picks and shovels" model in the electric mobility sector: rather than competing directly in building physical infrastructure, it provides the software tools that enable growth of the entire charging ecosystem.
