Marvel Fusion

Marvel Fusion is a startup based in Munich developing advanced nuclear fusion technologies, with an approach based on laser-driven inertial confinement fusion — a technique using ultra-high-energy laser pulses to trigger fusion reactions in solid fuel targets. The company aims to build an inertial fusion reactor capable of demonstrating the technical and economic feasibility of this technology as a clean industrial-scale energy source. Funding accelerated sharply in 2025-2026: in March 2025, Marvel Fusion announced a €50 million extension to its Series B round, bringing the total tranche to €113 million, with new investors including EQT Ventures and Siemens Energy Ventures, alongside the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund — the EIC's first equity investment in the fusion sector. In November 2025, the company also advanced in the EIC STEP Scale Up programme, which could bring an additional investment of up to €30 million. Total public and private funding raised by Marvel Fusion now exceeds $400 million. On the industrial side, Marvel Fusion is building a $150 million laser facility in partnership with Colorado State University, and in September 2025 received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to accelerate laser fusion technology development. Marvel Fusion operates in the private nuclear fusion sector, which is experiencing strong institutional and public investor interest, driven by the need to find clean energy sources capable of meeting the growing demand generated by AI data centres.
