About Kry

Kry — known as Livi in several of its markets outside Sweden — is a Stockholm-based healthcare startup founded in 2015 by Johannes Schildt with a conviction that access to qualified medical care should not be determined by geography, appointment backlog, or the willingness to spend time in a waiting room. The company provides telemedicine services that allow patients to consult licensed physicians via video and chat, receive digital prescriptions, manage referrals, and handle significant aspects of their ongoing healthcare without leaving home or the office. The platform was gaining traction before COVID-19, but the pandemic transformed the market dynamics of digital healthcare in a way that no marketing campaign could have replicated. When in-person GP consultations became simultaneously dangerous and logistically constrained across much of Europe, the case for telemedicine shifted almost overnight from 'convenient alternative' to 'necessary infrastructure.' Millions of patients who had never considered a digital medical appointment discovered that for a wide range of conditions — from minor infections and medication reviews to chronic disease management and mental health consultations — the quality of care through a video call was entirely comparable to an office visit. Kry recorded more than 3 million digital visits and grew at roughly 100 percent year-over-year during this period, with more than 6,000 clinicians engaged across its network. The platform is particularly attentive to the regulatory complexity of European healthcare. National health systems, reimbursement frameworks, prescribing regulations, and patient expectations vary considerably across countries in ways that a uniform product cannot easily address. In Sweden and Norway, Kry negotiated arrangements with regional health authorities to make its services reimbursable within the public health system — a critical step for mainstream adoption in markets where out-of-pocket medical spending is culturally unusual and where patients expect their primary care to be covered by the state. In 2021, the company raised $312 million in a Series D led by CPP Investments and Fidelity, following a €140 million Series C in 2020. The capital has supported expansion across Northern and Central Europe, technology development, and the recruitment of additional clinicians and clinical support staff. Kry's longer-term ambition extends beyond efficient access to acute care for minor conditions. The company aims to become a comprehensive digital primary care provider — capable of managing chronic disease, coordinating specialist referrals, and maintaining longitudinal patient relationships over years. For a generation of Europeans who have grown up expecting their services to be on-demand and digital, that ambition represents a genuine and sizable commercial opportunity.
