Founded in 2020 in Fareham, Hampshire, Kraken Technology Group is one of Europe's most advanced maritime defence startups. The company designs and builds uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) and autonomous underwater vehicles for military missions where speed, endurance and persistence are decisive. With more than 200 systems delivered and a target annual production of 1,000 units, Kraken has established itself as a strategic supplier for the UK Royal Navy and US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). In March 2026 it won a ยฃ12.3 million contract for 20 high-speed USVs for the Royal Navy; at the same time USSOCOM selected Kraken to develop next-generation autonomous maritime vessels. In July 2026 the company raised a $175 million (ยฃ130 million) Series B led by DTCP Defence, with British Business Bank, NATO Innovation Fund and Rheinmetall participating, reaching a $1 billion valuation and becoming Europe's first autonomous maritime defence unicorn.
