Ineffable Intelligence

Ineffable Intelligence is one of the most radical bets in Europe's new frontier AI wave. Incorporated in the UK in November 2025 as INEFFABLE INTELLIGENCE LTD, the company is built around David Silver, UCL professor and former Google DeepMind researcher, widely known for his work on AlphaGo, AlphaZero and reinforcement learning. Its thesis is easy to state and extremely hard to execute: the next leap in AI will not come only from larger models trained on more human text, but from systems able to learn directly from experience. Ineffable calls them "superlearners": agents that act, observe, receive feedback and continuously update their capabilities. The $1.1B seed round, led by Sequoia and Lightspeed with participation from Nvidia, Google and UK public capital, turned Ineffable into a symbolic case: a pre-product, pre-revenue company raising scaleup-level capital on talent, scientific credibility and technical ambition. The Nvidia collaboration announced in May 2026 makes the industrial bottleneck clearer. Building large-scale reinforcement learning is not just about accessing GPUs; it requires pipelines that allow agents to act, observe, score and update continuously. If the thesis works, the moat may emerge from infrastructure and learning processes, not just from the final model. Major uncertainties remain. Ineffable has not publicly disclosed customers, APIs, pricing, revenue or validated commercial use cases. It should therefore be read as a frontier AI lab, not as a traditional SaaS company: the relevant metrics are scientific milestones, team quality, experiment throughput, compute efficiency and the ability to retain elite talent.
