EFFECT Photonics is a Dutch company founded in 2009 as a spin-off of TU Eindhoven, specialising in integrated optical transceivers for advanced telecommunications applications. The company's core technology integrates onto a single photonic chip functions that traditionally require discrete optical components — lasers, modulators, receivers — drastically reducing the cost, size, and power consumption of optical modules used in high-capacity data transport networks. The target market is critical to global digital infrastructure: bandwidth demand is exploding with the expansion of AI data centres, 5G, and video traffic, while network operators seek more efficient and cost-effective optical solutions to scale their infrastructure capacity. EFFECT Photonics' funding trajectory accelerated significantly between 2025 and 2026: in June 2025, the company raised a $24 million extension to its Series D round, bringing the total tranche to $62 million. In February 2026, an additional $38 million Series D round followed, led by Innovation Industries Strategic Partners Fund, backed by Dutch pension funds PMT and PME with participation from Invest-NL Deep Tech Fund. Total funding raised by the company thus reached $174 million. The new capital is earmarked for accelerating technology development and increasing production capacity to meet growing customer demand. EFFECT Photonics positions itself as one of Europe's leading players in integrated photonics, a strategic sector for European technological sovereignty in data communication infrastructure.
