About Calibre

Every day, in hospitals and clinics across Europe, clinical decisions are made on the basis of data that cannot talk to each other. Medical records in incompatible proprietary formats, laboratory results coded inconsistently, drug dosages and nomenclature that vary from system to system: healthcare generates enormous volumes of data, but the quality of that data โ€” its consistency, completeness, and comparability โ€” is frequently insufficient to support genuinely well-grounded decisions. Calibre, a UK startup that emerged from stealth, identified this problem as its market. The company works on the standardization of clinical data: it takes heterogeneous health data โ€” from different sources, in different formats, using different term definitions โ€” and makes it coherent, structured, and usable to support higher-quality clinical decision-making. The proposition is not purely technical; it is clinical and organizational. The ultimate value is not having tidier data in a database โ€” it is making better decisions about diagnoses, therapies, and care pathways. The clinical data management market is large and chronically underinvested relative to its strategic importance. European national health systems are trying to interoperate with one another, to power real-world evidence research, to deploy diagnostic AI โ€” all activities that require standardized clinical data as a prerequisite. Without standardization, medical AI remains a promise more than a reality. Emerging from stealth is meaningful: it signals that Calibre has sufficient confidence in its solution โ€” and likely in early traction with clients or health systems โ€” to present itself publicly. In a sector where credibility is built slowly and partnerships with healthcare institutions take years to develop, this is an important threshold. Calibre positions itself as enabling infrastructure: not the final product that the patient encounters, but the data layer without which the final products cannot function well.

The Story

Calibre was created by compliance and behavioral analysis experts who recognized that financial institutions were drowning in compliance data but lacked actionable intelligence. They built a behavioral analytics platform that uses statistical analysis and anomaly detection to surface genuine risks, reducing false alarms and helping institutions focus on real threats.
