Bible Chat is a Romanian startup founded in 2023 in Bucharest by Laurentiu Balasa and Marius Iordache, which has transformed artificial intelligence into a spiritual guidance tool for Christian communities. The app allows users to ask questions about the Bible, faith, and Christian life, receiving answers contextualised in scripture through a natural conversational interface. The numbers are extraordinary for a two-year-old startup: 10 million active users, $15 million in annualised revenue, ranked 13th among the most downloaded apps in the App Store — alongside WhatsApp and Instagram — and the title of fastest-growing app in Europe across all categories and fastest-growing faith app in the world. In February 2025, it raised $14 million in a Series A led by True Ventures — one of Silicon Valley's iconic funds — with participation from Early Game Ventures and Play Ventures. The Bible Chat case is compelling both as a demonstration of rapid AI adoption in vertical niche contexts, and as an example of an Eastern European startup competing globally in a mass-market consumer product category.
