AMBOSS

AMBOSS is a digital medical knowledge platform founded in Berlin in 2012 and launched to market in 2014, born with the goal of making up-to-date medical knowledge accessible to all healthcare professionals. The product operates on two complementary levels: a continuously updated clinical reference library for practising physicians, and a study platform with thousands of exam questions for medical students. Both share the same underlying knowledge base but are optimised for different use cases. Its differentiation from printed textbooks and static online resources lies in hyperlinked structure and continuous updating: clinical guidelines are integrated directly into AMBOSS protocols, enabling physicians to consult them within seconds during patient consultations. In 2019, the company raised €30 million in a Series B, accelerating international expansion and development of AI features for clinical decision support. AMBOSS today serves hundreds of thousands of physicians and medical students worldwide, with strong penetration in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the United States — where it has established itself as a digital alternative to traditional resources like UpToDate.
